Allison is a North Carolina native, originally from the town of Kernersville.  She graduated with her BSN from East Carolina University. After serving in the United States Army Nurse Corps, Allison completed her MSN with a degree in Nurse Midwifery from State University of New York- Stony Brook. She continued to serve active duty military and family members as a certified nurse midwife, moving around the world as she and her family supported her husband’s military career. During these travels, Allison completed her Doctorate degree at the University of South Alabama, concentrating in evidence based medicine and translational research. She has continued to provide evidence-based women’s health care for over 2 decades, establishing herself on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina.

Allison has pursued a passion for all aspects of women’s health across the lifespan. Her concentration in recent years has been on hormone balance and caring for women during the perimenopause and menopause transition. She is a member of The Menopause Society and is one of few Menopause Society Certified Practitioners (MSCP) in Eastern North Carolina. Allison is a Certified Evexias trained clinician, trained in hormone therapy and integrated functional medicine.

Allison is married to Michael and they have two children, each pursuing their own dreams in medicine and the military. The McCarson’s have retired from military life and are permanent beach people. Why Vitalize?

After 27 years in traditional medicine, I found myself longing to have more time with my patients. More time to listen to their story, dive deep into their symptoms, their overall health, their emotional needs, nutritional needs and physical needs. Each of these needs plays an important part in maintaining balance during the perimenopausal/menopausal transition. I enjoy working with women to identify the root cause of their symptoms and develop an individualized plan for treatment and lifestyle adjustment. Few Primary Care or OB/GYN providers receive substantial training in the perimenopause and menopausal transition. Even when trained, they rarely have the time to focus on the individual woman and her needs when she presents with the many symptoms of peri and menopause. By focusing on up-to-date research in this area, I can provide complementary care to women during what can be a very difficult time in life.  I work alongside their primary care provider and other specialists to provide focused care for specific women’s health concerns.
